The Chamber Consortium Project
This project, run by SoundCraftEd, is an annual commission consortium of three pieces for flute, bassoon, and additional instruments. Read our mission below, and scroll down to meet this year’s composers. Visit our project site via the button on the right.
Each annual project is unified under our three part mission:
Including New Voices
Each year, three composers will be included in this project, including one "early career" professional of the instrumental composition world. This may be a current student in a composition department, young independent composer, or an established musician recently expanding their experience to include composing music. Each cohort will also include at least one composer from a historically underrepresented identity group.Making Finances Accessible
Every consortium will include commission levels for both professionals and students, allowing young musicians to access the experience of commissioning new music and performing world premieres at an affordable price point.Exploring Contemporary Sounds
Our consortium project welcomes use of auxiliary flute and bassoon family instruments, extended techniques, fixed and live electronics, amplification and distortion, non-traditional notation or graphic scoring, and more. We hope that open dialogue with composers as artists and communicators as well as open-mindedness to sound creation will expand our understanding of music.

Amber Sheeran has found great joy in writing both commission works, and those of her own inspiration. While much of her beginning inspiration initially came from literature, she has started turning to Colorado’s beautiful nature as another source of inspiration, along with the folk songs she teaches to my students. It's not difficult to find a piece of her music that has some folk song woven into it. In addition to composing, she teaches K-3 Elementary Music, assists with the Beginning and Intermediate Bands for the Colorado Honor Band Association, and serves on the board of the Colorado Chapter of the American Eurhythmics Society.
Amber is a member of the Millennium Composers Initiative.
